what I’m loving!

I needed black cut offs because I wear my other ones all the time! So excited to get these and just wait they’ll make their way to every other outfit post. These are from Topshop. They’re shorter on the sides, longer in the back.  So good, so flattering.

Buxom Lip Gloss in Melissa. I found this at TJ Maxx!  I have been having good luck there, lately!   I love lip plumpers and this one is so good.  It has a colder, minty sensation instead of the burning kind which I personally hate.  Like the Too Faced lip injections?  Those are painful! I really like this and it comes in every color under the sun.  They last pretty long on the lips too!

BP Hat. Oh guys, I’m a sucker for hats!  I think they’re so cute! I neeeeed to wear them more because I have quite a few!

BP Sunnies!  I am obsessed with sunglasses.  I want a closet full of designer glasses one day but I honestly suck at taking care of them!  Every pair I own is so scratched, like my Quay high keys are donezo because they were never in the case and the gold scratched off.  I also sat on my Ray bans so now the sit crooked on my face. Lol.  I throw my sunglasses all over the place so I’m gonna stick with buying cheapy pairs so that it’s not such a waste when they’re all scratched up. Nordstrom BP has an amazing section! These were $12 each and the white rimmed pair reminds me of these new Ray Bans that I almost just bought.  I’m in love with them and they’re pretty freaking identical. Here’s the tortoise shell ones.

We’re talking hyped palettes…

Oh hyped makeup palettes!!! One of my biggest weaknesses up there with restaurant bread. BIG.  Hyped palettes are palettes that are highly talked about in the beauty world. They’re popular on social media, they have a set release date and time, they’re LIMITED EDITION and everyone oohs and ahhs over them.  At the moment the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture palette fills all of those boxes and actually comes out today! Label something with limited edition and I swear I will be all over it in a hot second.  God forbid I miss out and have FOMO! I will stay up all night for the release time and buy it right there! I missed out on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Mario palette and I still get sad about that because the colors were so perfect for what I love.

Hyped palettes are often better then they look! At least for myself I fall for the hype without even really thinking about whether I 1) really need it, 2) have something like it already or the biggest one 3) will want something better later! The worst is when you buy it and you’re sad cause something better comes out a week later and you wished you saved your money for that! I’m trying to get better at this because I’ve gotten some new makeup lately that I haven’t really loved because I bought it just because it was hyped and I didn’t want to miss out. There is also something about just holding a makeup palette that makes me giddy.

Here’s 4 palettes I’ve gotten in the last 5 months.  Almost all of them hyped palettes.

Too Faced Natural Love. I was a little late to the party with this one. It’s almost brand new because I’ve used it like 4 times.  I wear eyeshadow when I go out and I go out when I’m at school so I haven’t found much use for it this summer.  The shadows are pretty and pigmented. The colors are my jam because I really only wear golds and bronze colors on my eyes. The fallout isn’t terrible and I love the variety because I can create a number of different looks with this palette! Overall, I think this purchase was worth it!

NARS Bord de Plage.  This is the BEST thing I’ve bought in a long time.  I haven’t been this excited about makeup in a while and I have used it nonstop since I got it.  You can tell it’s been used a little bit by the picture and I honestly can see myself hitting pan in the near future. Nars quality is just so good! This palette is beautiful and I love having one palette for bronzer and highlighter. The highlighter makes you glow but not in a fake way! I was so into intense, in your face highlighter and I’m starting to tone that down and this highlighter is a great everyday glow for me! I use the two middle shades the most and I love the top left shade for inner, corner, eyelid highlight. This wasn’t the most hyped palette but I saw it many a times on instagram.

ABH x Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit.  Ahh. I saw this on the Sephora app and I knew I had to own it.  It was $45 which is really good considering you get 6 shades. I got this early access on the Sephora app so I had no reviews on it before I got it.  Honestly, I haven’t used this since I got it in March.  I like the formula: it’s very buttery.  The highlighters are VERY intense.. again sort of leaning away from that.  And it has chunky glitter pieces in it that stick out on your face.  This leaves a nice glow but I think it’s better suited for night time.  I just have other highlighters that I like better and reach for before this.  It’s a photogenic palette but I haven’t used it in 3 months. I fell for the hype and if I could exchange this palette for something else I would. Hopefully I can find a way to incorporate it into my makeup routine!

Becca x Chrissy Teigen Glowkit.  I LOVE Chrissy Teigen and Becca highlighters so before I even saw what this looked like I knew I was going to get it.  I stayed up till 4 am during FINALS to try and get this palette on the Sephora app! Come to find out this palette didn’t even sell out! (Why am I like this?!?!!)  The shades aren’t really highlighters to me. They also don’t pop like my Champagne pop or Opal does!  The bronzer really needs to be built up to show and the blush shade is so bright and so not my jam I haven’t even attempted to use this. (I do think this palette works better with medium/olive skin tones.) I definitely fell for the hype with this palette.  Recently, I discovered that Chrissy mixes the highlighter and bronzer and applies it to her cheeks as a blush and I started to do that and I have done it everyday since I discovered that!  I love it like that and I am very happy that I found a way to use this palette because before that I wasn’t.

I almost succumbed to the hype of the UD Heat palette and the ABH Subculture palette but I stayed strong!  As someone who only wears neutrals I probably don’t palettes with reds, yellows and blues in them! Haaa.  Its hard because you see all this new makeup thats so pretty and shiny and you get distracted by wanting it all! (Maybe a me thing?)  I need to do a better job of evaluating what I buy before so that I make sure I’ll love it and use it.  I like waiting for new items to release so I can get reviews, tutorials and input on them and then buying them the on the 2nd round of releases if I really want it!  Right now I’m really wanting a Huda Beauty Highlighting palette and the reviews I see makes me want it more! I also need more highlighter like I need a hole in my head. 😆

These silk camis are my new obsession!  They look good with so many different bottom/ sweater / jacket combinations and they can be dressed up or dressed down!  They’re honestly so versatile.  I love them with cut-offs for summer and I can dress them up with heels and a smokey eye when I go out.   They create the perfect base for a super easy go-to outfit!

So on to my shoooessssss! Meet my new favorite pair of summer sandals!  These are from Olive and June. It’s a nail salon in LA that does super cute manis.  (here’s mine)  I absolutely love these because they are pedicure friendly!  I’ve only ever worn rubber slippers to a pedicure so I really love how chic these are and how many outfits they’ll look amaze with.  They can be tied a number of different ways.  I’m excited to see how else I can tie them but I really love them the way I have them tied. They’re super comfy and they don’t need to retied constantly.  I went a good 7 hours before I retied them only because I was shoe shopping and trying stuff on. Hahahahaha, too typical.

Batiste Dry Shampoo: I love this stuff and have about uh, 5 cans sitting on my shelf at the moment.  This dry shampoo is my go to and it consistently works at keeping my hair fresh! The only thing is this dry shampoo can leave a white cast in your hair. I personally like it because my roots are much darker then the rest of my hair so it lightens it up…silver lining ahem. Overall, the dry shampoo makes my hair clean and adds volume without making my hair grimy or changing the texture of it. It comes in a billion different scents but my favorite is the Clean and light Bare. It smells like expensive perfume.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer: This bronzer is one of my favorites and I always find myself coming back to it!!  It’s not quite drugstore but it’s not Sephora: it’s $14 and you can find it at Ulta and Target.  It comes in a light bronze and a bronze shade and I use the bronze shade.  It blends so nicely into the skin and its the perfect bronze color with no orange.  Thats a big deal to me! NO orange bronzer. It has a sort of creamy, puffy texture which I find helps it blend into the skin super nicely.  Everyone needs to try this because its so good, easy and universally flattering!  I use an ecotools bronzer blush to apply it.

Lucas’ Papaw ointment:  This is the best lip balm/ skin saving salve.  I use it on my lips and on dry spots on my face.  I have VERY sensitive skin.  I like aquaphor but sometimes it doesn’t work for me almost as if my skin gets used to it. I don’t have that issue with this and it always helps my skin after I apply it.  I would say this is a better version of aquaphor and I love it!  I have it on my bed side table, in my purse and in the car!

L’oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise: I recently blogged about this mascara in depth and raved about it! I LOVE it! It’s a dupe for the Better than Sex mascara that I like better because it keeps my lashes curled which is a huge deal for me! It gives great volume and length that lasts through out the day without flaking. I use both the waterproof and normal: I think both are great but the waterproof probably wears better through the day.  FYI It’s very waterproof.

Nars lipgloss in Orgasm:  The Nars orgasm blush is one of the most universally flattering shades of blush!  It’s the first blush I ever got and I loved it.  I recently got the lip gloss and like the blush it’s super flattering. I love a glossy lip and I think its great and easy for summer with a bronzed and dewy face. The lip gloss is a little sticky but not too sticky.  I dropped this today and broke it and I’m SO bummed!

Avene Peaux des intolerantes:  This is the BEST moisturizer for sensitive skin.  I have very sensitive skin and will randomly find red spots and rashes on my face.  This product helps to soothe that and has definitely helped in preventing future rashes and red spots!  This is the best my skin has been in a long time and its because of this moisturizer 100%.  It’s so gentle and creamy. I have dry skin, especially during East coast winters and this helps keep my skin soft and moisturized. It wear it under my makeup with another primer and it all wears very nicely together. If you have sensitive skin you need this!

Trader Joes Facial oil:  The beauty section at Trader Joes is a hidden gem! All the products are cheap and natural.  I use this oil to take my makeup off. I will say it leaves a residue. If you don’t like that this is not for you.  I have dry skin and my face always feels drier after I wash it except when I use this because the oil leaves a layer of moisture on my skin that makes it super soft!  If you don’t wear water proof mascara this will remove your makeup.  It takes a little more oomph with waterproof mascara.  I’m on my 3rd bottle of this, it’s like $6 and works super well! I love the idea of using natural skincare.

Chrissy Teigen x Becca Palette: I love this highlighter palette!  It comes with 2 highlighters, a blush and a bronzer.  I knew I was going to love this before I got it! Chrissy Teigen and I have similar coloring so I knew this would work for me. If you have light-medium skin this palette will be super flattering on you! I love Becca products and the quality of them and this palette is no different.  It’s nice to have one stop palette that does bronzer, blush and highlighter. It has a great mirror in it too.

White Birkenstocks:  I love the rubber Birkenstocks because I find them comfier and easier to break in.  I have a regular pair that I’ve worn for a year that still give me blisters!  The rubber ones are super light and I love the white for summer because they make me look tan.  I have been wearing these 24/7 since I got them!

A better Too Faced mascara dupe..

GUYS!!!! I’m so excited to share this with you!!

I’m a huge fan of the Too Faced Better than sex mascara. I want a mascara that gives volume and length and it certainly does.  The only problem I have with it is that my lashes fall flat about after an hour of applying it.  My lashes never stay curled so I just went with it. Still love the mascara and use(d) it daily!  This is so insane because you guys, I found a mascara thats a dupe/ better than the beloved Too Faced one: the L’oreal voluminous lash paradise.  Even the bottles look similar!  This mascara was released in the last month or so and I heard from a few difference sources that it was a dupe for the Better than Sex mascara so I went to like 4 different stores to find it and guys, it’s SO good!  This one keeps my lashes curled ALL day. It does everything the Better than Sex mascara does AND then some… and it’s like $9.

FullSizeRender 17

This is the mascara on my lashes.  It’s AMAZING!  My lashes still look like that at the end of the day. I have tried both the waterproof and regular version of the mascara and both are amazing.

I’ve always tried to use a waterproof mascara because it is supposed to help lashes hold a curl better than a regular mascara.  I just despise the process of taking it off!  This regular version keeps my lashes curled all day and that is a dream!

For reference, this is my lashes with the Too Faced mascara.  And as evidence of my cheetah robe I had just gotten ready and my lashes were already falling. 😦 No more of that!! A dupe is a product that usually mirrors another higher end product and I feel like the L’oreal Mascara is a dupe and then some.  I love it and I’m so obsessed with it. Definitely my new #1 mascara. Everyone needs to own it!

a Glamglow dupe!

Beauty, Uncategorized

FullSizeRender-11

So I got a glamglow mega illuminating moisturizer sample in one of my Sephora boxes and I used it and was in love! It’s a priming moisturizer with some light shimmer/sheen in it and I was shocked I never thought of something like it before.  I would use it before I applied my makeup and I loved the way it made my skin look!  The moisturizer is $50 and while I loved the product I knew I could find a cheaper version of it. $50 is a lot for a makeup primer!  I started brainstorming for ways to recreate it and the version I created is super spot on and 1/4 of the price!

To make my own version of the glamglow one I use a Trader Joes facial moisturizer which is $5.99 and Sephora highlight drops which are $14.  The glamglow retails at $49 for 1.7 oz while the Trader joes moisturizer is 6oz and you just add the illuminator in depending on your preference.  I hate math but bottomline mine is way cheaper and gives way more!!

I’m really happy with the way it turned out and it is super similar to the glamglow version!  The only difference is it’s not as thick which I like because it’s still hydrating and I more suited to wear under makeup  It also doesn’t have a smell which again is preference.  The glamglow smells like creamsicles which I like but its also a very specific and strong scent!

I mix it on the back of my hand! I use a dime size amount of moisturizer so I have enough for my face/neck.

Next apply a pump of the illuminating drops! About a pea size amount because gimme lots of shimmer!  This is preference!

Time to mix it together!

glamglow+glowstarter+|+pinebarrenbeauty.com

This is the glamglow version in the color nude glow.  My version looks pretty similar!

IMG_4090

Volia! Here is the finished product on my hand! Glow with shimmer.

This product is all about preference.  You can use a different moisturizer, maybe one with SPF which I want to try next!  For highlight I like a lighter, gold color because I think that goes best with my skin. But you can try this with a lighter, icy highlighter, maybe a pink one or a bronzier one. It’s all preference.  If you have a container you can make a bigger amount and store it for faster use!

I’m super happy with how this turned out!  I like it better than the glamglow because I feel like this one is more dramatic and I like not having a smell.

The dress everyone needs

H&M Dress similar, similar.  // Puma Fenty // Quay High Key sunglasses.

I got this t-shirt dress at H&M like 4 years ago and it is still a staple in my closet!  Everyone needs a super easy t-shirt dress they can throw on with sneakers or sandals (depending on your style) and be done.  It’s with it and full proof!  This dress was honestly like $8 at H&M and the quality is shocking!  It’s been washed many times and it hasn’t pilled or faded.  It certainly hasn’t worn/washed like something from H&M. It’s super easy for the summer and everyone needs one!

Sephora Play!

Beauty, beauty review, sephora, Uncategorized

IMG_4016

Another month equals another beauty box.  The Sephora play box this month seemed almost forgotten because Sephora always gives spoilers and has a tab for upcoming boxes and there was none of that!  That being said, I’m overall pretty happy with what I got because last month’s was such a bummer I didn’t even blog about it!  They usually come in a cloth drawstring bag and I love the new plastic envelope it came in this month!

Tocca Perfume: This has  blood orange base scent so I gave it to my momma because she loves citrus perfume.

Skin Laundry Face Wash: The size of this is pretty good for a sample!  It’s a foaming gentle cleanser.   I used it last night and I liked it but its not like drop everything and go get it. It’s a basic, gentle cleanser.  It foams well and I do like bubbles when I wash my face.

Belif Hungarian Water serum: This is a hydration serum and I’m a dry gal so I like it.  It’s also Hungarian like me, which not sure how Hungarian water is more hydrating but I like it and I’ll go with it! So far, I’ve tried it for 2 nights and not so sure how good it is because I used it under a very thick moisturizer.  My skin feels very hydrated for what it’s worth.  I feel like I need to pull this out for the winter!

Rahua Hair Mask: This is supposed to be really good for dull and colored hair.  I used this tonight and to my pleasure, my hair was smoother, less frizzy and softer when I blow dried it!  I’m really happy with the results and my hair is very dry and damaged so that means a lot if I can see a noticeable difference.  I would totally buy the full size.  It has the best rosemary smell to it, too. 😍

Nudestix Lipstick: I love the idea of Nudestix!!! It’s all no makeup makeup which is my favorite.  I ‘m so excited one of their products was in this month’s box. The lip color is dark, I would say more of a fall color but I’m excited to try it.

Trestique highlight: This showed up broken which was super annoying. I fixed it but still.  The boxes always have highlighter which I have no complaints about!  The consistency and color payoff of this one is super creamy and smooth.  I really like it so far and am excited to try it on the face.

Chrissy Teigen x Becca

Beauty, beauty review, Uncategorized

Becca x Chrissy Teigen glow palette.

I need to change the name of my blog from blackberries and sparkles to blackberries and highlighter.  legit.  Highlighter is one of my most favorite things, ever and I’m like gimme all of them. So first off, I LOVE Chrissy Teigen.  I think she is so hilarious and ballsy. I love it!  She also has the Asian mom/ white dad like me which makes me an even bigger fan.  Becca highlighters I think are the best highlighters on the market in terms of consistency, glow, sheen and everything I want in a highlighter. I think they give the best glow while still applying smooth to the face.  When I heard about this palette coming out I knew I HAD to own it because its two things I love having the greatest baby, ever.

The palette is super easy for makeup too because it has everything I need besides concealer and mascara. I love darker highlighters for a bronzier look. The rose gold shade is perfect for that and beach nectar is more pink which works great with the blush. The only thing is not so sure how pigmented the bronzer is. Still need to play with it more but its no where near as pigmented as the blushes and highlighters.

I love making lists and I always want something new so wishlists are my jam!  I’m also home and happy as a clam. Barf my dumb rhymes. 😅

Lulu bra: bras are so uncomfty. this probably doesn’t do shit for support but its so cute.

Quay aviators: Quay makes the most humongous glasses and I’m over here like the bigger, the buggier the more I want them.

Stila magnificent metals eyeshadows: I love the idea of bronze, glitter eyeshadow and very minimal makeup with hair up. Summer glam.

Free People top: Love the sleeves and I love orange with a tan and lighter hair. 😉

Nudestix luminizer bronzer: Love the idea around this new brand. Very natural, on the go makeup.

Princess Polly Romper: UGH I love this romper.

Birkenstock white rubber: I like the rubber birks better because the normal ones give me blisters! And white makes you look hellllla tan.

Marc Jacobs bronzer: My obsession for bronzer maybe just maybe passed my obsession with highlighter.
