New York Beauty Crawl

I was in New York last week and whenever I’m in a new city I love too look and see what beauty and skincare stores they have! It’s just the beauty lover in me but New York is seriously a great option for beauty products.  Here’s what made the cut:

Ricky’s NYC.

Ricky’s has multiple locations all over New York.  They’re a beauty supply store but they care brands like Bioderma, Embryolisse, Cosrx, Oribe, Violet Voss, NYX Morphe and The Ordinary. ( which for the record I am no longer a fan of but I can attest to the fact that their stuff is hard to find in store!) They also have a huge section of hair toners, dyes and coloring supplies!  I make sure to get some Bioderma every time I’m in New York because Ricky’s is the only store I’ve ever been too that has it!

They have all the different Bioderma lines.

Embryolisse and Cosrx. Both hard to find in stores!

Olaplex.  if you need a hair mask this is a God send. My #1 recommendation and its also harder to find in store or even online. (beware of fakes!)

Glossier. 123 Lafayette Street. Lafayette and Canal for your cab driver 😉

This mirror is right near the elevator.

If you like beauty you know Glossier so I had to include this because their only show room is in New York! Its located in little Italy and its a teeny tiny penthouse that is always jam packed. For example you have to wait in line to get in the elevator to get up to the showroom.  I’m still deciding if I like Glossier — not sure if its that good or if its really just over hyped and very well marketed. I think the showroom is a one time visit and done.  It’s all millennial pink;  cute, VERY aesthetically pleasing and even better for pictures…but super hyped up.  It’s tiny and very crowded so I don’t see a need to ever go back.

They have all their products out to sample and you fill out a note card of what you want, pay and then wait for them to call your name with your bag of products.  I got lidstars and a review of that will be up soon!

Outside with the Glossier banners.

One of the testing areas.

the sink area. that Byredo Burning rose candle smells AMAZNG. The whole show room smells so good.

I almost got the Glossier You solid perfume but I didn’t and I’m not too upset.   Peep my dunks I can’t put down!

Another jam packed sample area. Hint its always jam packed.

Sample Sales

I went to the Space NK sample sale while in New York and it was an awesome sale with killer prices. Heres the post I wrote on that.  I totally recommend checking for sample sales while you’re there.

The next Space NK sale won’t be for a while but heres what I got. Prices were around 70% + off. I paid $20 for a normal $100 Eve Lom moisturizer.

Duane Reade

Duane Reade is basically a CVS with a kicked up beauty section.  They have them on just about every corner and I wish they would branch out past New York! I live for their Avene section. They make the best skincare for dry, sensitive skin hands down.  I always pick of the Skin Recovery Cream in the rich version. I haven’t found it in any stores besides Duane Reade so its a must.

They also have the Balm cosmetics and I didn’t end up getting some but I want to try their bronzers and highlighters!

Their Avene section. image via cafe makeup.

I like Sephora in New York because they’re massive!  For instance everyone I went to had  a Natasha Denona section and I haven’t seen that in a while. I was able to find some stuff I haven’t seen in many stores.

Sure they’re everywhere but I like the Ulta on 86th because it has a huge Mac section and it carries all the Colourpop stuff!

C.O Bigelow Apothecaries

Sort of like a kicked up pharmacy with a bunch of different skincare and beauty products. I didn’t go here but its on my list for next time and I’ve heard good things.

Looking at the location and I’m so mad I didn’t go here because it’s down the street from Glossier! Ugh and its all Asian beauty which is my weakness. I got enough while was in NY so its probably for the better but def want to check this out! I also head back in a month. 😉

Credo Beauty

They carry high end, all natural beauty products. I want to check this store out and they also have locations in NY, Boston and  LA!

Space NK

Space NK has a normal store and they have everything from Kevyn Aucoin to Ren to Eve Lom to Malin + Gotez to Byredo!

Blue Mercury

I saw so many of these while I was there. They have high end makeup and skincare. Think Tom Ford, Bobbi Brown, Clarins, Diptyque, RMS, Oribe and YSL to name a few.

Thats what made the cut for my NY beauty crawl.  Any places you swear by for beauty prouducts? Lemme know! Please! 🙂

Skincare I travel with!

I’ve been traveling a lot lately and I do my best to condense what I bring because most of the time I will shop when I’m away. ALL of the time I will shop when I’m away, lol.  I love going somewhere new and looking for new skincare and makeup. I’m in no way a light packer but I’m trying and I’m working on only bringing what works best for me while leaving room for whatever new finds its way to me!

Cleanser. I’m not too set on a cleanser but I like this Skin Laundry one.

Bioderma micellar water: I use this as a makeup remover and as a 2nd cleanse. I love and swear by this stuff.  It removes any extra makeup on your face without leaving a greasy residue.

Paula’s choice AHA liquid exfoliator: This stuff works the best for my skin and keeping it smooth without many blemishes. I 100% need this when I travel because I’m usually eating good food and lots of dairy which isn’t great for my skin!

Acure Blue tansy oil:  I love an oil for added hydration, especially because traveling or a new environment can dry out skin. This one is light and layers well with other products.

A good moisturizer! I have a few that I go to but this is a must for me since I have dry skin. Usually I’ll bring one that can work for day and night. Lately my routine has been the Paula’s Choice, the Acure oil and a moisturizer. Simple and my skin is loving it.

For moisturizers I like: The Avene rich cream, Embryolisse, Replenix or Malin + Goetz moisturizer.

Ole Henrikson Eye Cream: I just started using this but I think its a must for travel because you’re fatigued and so is your skin. This also works as a intense moisturizer on dry patches that you may have pop up. It happens and an eye cream is extra thick.

Chapstick. Always vaseline and always the stash of lip sticks/glosses that I have in my bag.  If my lips are really bad I’ll bring this Laneige lip mask

Natural Toothpaste. I never brought tooth paste when I traveled but I switched over to a natural tooth paste 2 months ago and the rashes I would get around my mouth and on my lips are 100% gone.  I always had rashy lips and I just blamed on whatever lip product I was using. Nope, tooth paste because if you think about it, you get tooth paste on your lips daily! I will never not travel with tooth paste again.

Face spray. I like some sort of face spray for added hydration, a toner and for setting makeup if I need too.  I brought this Trader Joes Rose toner which is great at calming redness.  I also really enjoy the Mario Badescu cucumber spray

Acne dots: You never know if you’re gonna get a zit and these are great because they’re easy to travel with / small and they work so well.

Sunscreen! Always bring sunscreen. I love the Drunk Elephant umbra Tinte.

Good cotton, especially if micellar water is your main form of makeup removing.  I like these Muji ones.

Boston for the weekend!

My mom came to visit me this weekend and it’s exactly what I needed!! I have three weeks left in the semester and I have just reached the point where I am just ready to be done and home! Moms make everything truly better and I got the little boost I needed to power through the rest of the semester.  I have one week, Thanksgiving 😍, another week, finals and I am home.  I just want to see my dog and be in warm weather!

I go to school a little bit outside of Boston so for the weekend we decided to go to Boston and explore.  It reminds me of a much tamer New York which I don’t mind at all. My mom and I did some shopping on and ate good food which is truly the way to my heart!  We stuck to Newbury Street and Prudential Center which are both great. The Sephora at Prudential is TO DIE FOR; it’s massive and has everything!  It was SO cold this weekend, like in the 30s which is just brutally miserable to be outside in…and super hard to look cute in!  My mom froze her tush off so we did our best to stay indoors. With the exception of pictures and donuts lol! 😉

I was actually freezing in these photos but I’ll sacrifice cold for a picture and an outfit.  A cute outfit is only so cute under a big puffer coat.
