Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire tales college life for a certain Abby Abernathy and Travis Maddox. Abby first meets Travis in the ring, where he spends his nights winning money, participating in underground fights. Abby and her best friend, Mare, move away to college to let go of the darkness entwined in Abby’s past. Mare conveniently dates Shepley, Travis’s cousin and roommate. Travis puts Abby face to face with everything she vowed to put behind her.
Abby makes a bet with Travis, thus giving her a run for her money when the consequence of losing is living with Travis for a month. Either way, Travis is in her life for good and there is no denying that. As their relationship grows they learn a lot about themselves and a lot about each other. And when its good, its good and when its bad, its bad.
Abby hides a lot behind her long brown hair and cashmere sweaters. Under Travis’s playboy, tatted, tough guy exterior, he carries a lot with him just as Abby. Their relationship experiences ups and downs during their freshman year. Their pasts can bring them down, along their actions, and their choices. Either way, they always manage to find their way back up.
This book had me swooning the entire time! I read it in two days which is totally normal for me but I could not put this book down! I so rooted for them! Abby and Travis are still young and trying to figure everything out. His love for her is encompassing, his means of going about it are different but they perfectly describe his love for Abby, his pigeon. This book gives a whole new meaning to the word Pigeon — it’s more then just some annoying bird. The book brings humor to relationships and sorting out life.
Travis is a macho, tatted, fighter with manskank tendencies. (basically, he’s a hottie with a whole lotta love for Abby Abernathy. and I have a thing for book boyfriends with tattoos ;)) Abby brings out the best in him, and the worst at time or two. Abby holds a lot in, she has a hell of a poker face and her feelings for Travis aren’t as easily displayed as his for her. Her actions speak louder then her words because she has a hard time managing her extreme feelings for Travis. Their relationship has lots of bumps on a road going nowhere but up.
Verdict: I would read again and I fully intend too! Great storyline and characters. I like that the drama in the book doesn’t become redundant and overbearing. Abby and Travis have lots of love; they are a Beautiful Disaster. 🙂
